Ziptrak vs Channel-Guided Outdoor Blinds: Which Is Right for You?

It’s the question we get asked more than any other: “What’s the difference between Ziptrak and channel-guided outdoor blinds — and which one do I actually need?” Here’s a straight answer from people who fit both every week across Sydney.

They’re both outdoor blinds — the difference is how they’re held in the tracks

Both systems drop a blind down the outside of your alfresco, patio or verandah to block wind, rain and sun. The big difference is the side channels and how the blind is guided and sealed inside them.

Ziptrak (spline / “zip track”) blinds

Ziptrak is a track-guided system where a spline welded to the edge of the fabric runs inside the side channel — so the blind is fully sealed down both sides with no gaps, ropes or zips on show. It’s spring-balanced, so you can stop it at any height with one hand.

Channel-guided outdoor blinds

“Channel-guided” covers a range of more traditional systems where the blind runs in a side channel but is operated by a crank, rope-and-pulley or a simpler track. They do a great job for the money and suit plenty of homes.
